Estimation with Green Plastic Bins

Mr. Avery's class at Bowman engaged in a math estimation activity with our green plastic packing bins.

First students used a variety of methods to try to estimate the number of bins in the hallway.  Next they checked strategies with another student -- and then double checked their work.

And the final count of boxes is ...  452

Since 1000 bins were delivered to Bowman School on Thursday.  How many bins have been packed by Bowman Teachers so far?

Getting Ready to Pour the Slab at Bowman

The underground pipes are in and the workers plan to pour the slab for the new boiler room on Monday or Tuesday at Bowman and Thursday or Friday at Bridge.  Teachers and staff will be moved by the end of the week, and construction will go at full force.  A special thank you to all the teachers who are working so hard to make sure that the last days of school are great ones for the students and that they are out of their classrooms for the construction to begin in earnest.

Weekend Packing

At both Bowman and Bridge, staff have been busy packing.  This weekend, the buildings were filled with staff, packing up and getting ready for the move.

Packing at Bridge

The staff and I spent the rotating sessions with movers and facilities representatives discussing packing logistics and walking through classrooms to designate what should be packed in boxes and what can be moved as is.  Staff are using boxes, plastic bins, and large "laundry like" bins for packing.  Two storage containers were delivered to help move items out of classrooms.

We have been fortunate in that we were able to purchase new furniture for the newly renovated area through the capital budget and extra funding provided to us through the system.  This summer, we are expecting new staff desks, book shelves, file cabinets, white boards, and much more!  Over the past few years, we have worked to replace all student desks and chairs.  The containers will be used to store the new furniture and all items in the area that is being renovated.

New Boiler Room

Progress is being made on the building of the new boiler room at Bridge!

Renovation Meeting

Dr. Anton (Principal of Bowman) and Mrs. Colella (Principal of Bridge) have weekly meetings with the architects, Permanent Building Committee representatives, facilities staff, and Clerk of the Works.  During these meetings we discuss the "Two Week Look Aheads" that allow us to plan, preview with staff and students the work they can expect to see, and ask clarifying questions.  We also have spent much of our time at these meetings planning for the packing and move for the summer.

Packing Has Begun!

Staff at Bridge and Bowman have begun to pack for the summer.  Over the next two weeks, 1/2 of the building will pack up their entire room so that the major renovations can occur during the summer.  This is a huge effort and all staff should be commend for their work.
